This calculator estimates your body fat percentage from simple tape measurements using the U.S. Navy circumference method, no special equipment required.
Sample input: Waist circumference (cm): 85, Neck circumference (cm): 38, Height (cm): 175, Sex (1 = male, 0 = female): 1, Hip circumference (cm, female only): 0
Body fat: 16.9 (Fitness)
Your estimated body fat is 16.9% (U.S. Navy method), which falls in the "Fitness" range per American Council on Exercise categories.
It estimates body fat from circumference measurements (neck, waist, and hip for women) plus height, using equations developed by Hodgdon and Beckett in 1984. It needs only a tape measure.
The Navy method is typically within about 3 to 4 percentage points of more precise methods like DEXA for most people. Accuracy drops at very high or very low body fat, so treat it as a useful estimate.
The American Council on Exercise lists fitness ranges of about 14 to 17 percent for men and 21 to 24 percent for women, with athletic ranges lower. Essential fat is about 2 to 5 percent for men and 10 to 13 percent for women.
The female equation includes hip circumference because fat distribution differs by sex. Without it the estimate would be inaccurate for women.
